    • Too long of a question, sorry! Can you answer my question? It is about Ross Lynch from Austin and Ally. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuTyaWo0Yg.XsPO2nHiQhA_ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20130415133149AAkKoiA
  • Where in Austin, TX can I find a cheap car inspection place? I just realized my inspection sticker ended yesterday and being low on money this is a bad time because I have a trip to make on Friday. Is there any place that will inspect my car for cheap maybe under $20 or $30?
    • That price is the same at all stations. The price is set by the state. It's more in counties that require emissions testing. And don't worry about it expiring on Friday. In Texas we have a 5 day grace period.
  • Why does my speakers make a loud POP when power is turned off? I have a karaoke system setup with amp, mixer and jbl speakers. I have it all connected to a circuit breaker and i feel lazy about shutting it all off individuallly so i just shut off the breaker.... However, when i do this without shutting down the amp, speakers make a really loud pop, almost like a gun going off. If i power off the amp and shut down the breaker its fine.... Why is this happening and is there a way to fix this? wow, thanks for the detailed info Ken C. I guess ill just stop being lazy.. thanks again!
    • The way you're turning your system off is hard on the speakers. One of these days you're going to turn on your system and find that you've damaged a woofer. What you're hearing the the filter caps in the mixer quickly discharging when you turn off the power. As that happens, the amplifier circuits in the board will get into a state where they "rail". This means that their output jumps to a voltage almost equal to one of their supply voltages (the one that didn't discharge first). Probably more info than you wanted to know. Amplifiers have a lot more power supply filtering, so they stay on a fraction of a second longer than the mixer. So...they amplify the event in the mixer and BOOM...you hear it the speakers. The way you fix this is that you quit being lazy and turn your system on and off in the proper order. When you turn your system on, you should start at the source and then work to the amp. In other words, turn on your CD players and computers first, then the mixer, and the power amp last. When you get ready to turn the system off, go in reverse. The power amp gets shut off first, then the mixer, and finally any support gear. If that's too much for you, then I would suggest you getting a sequenced power strip. It will actually turn your system on and off in the proper order. Carvin makes a pretty good one that's reasonably priced: http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/AC120S Greetings from Austin, Tx Ken
  • Will "good" colleges accept a college drop out? I'm currently applying to colleges as a transfer applicant for the Fall term of 2013. Some of my college choices include NYU, Austin College, and Pace University. My question is, will schools like NYU even consider a college application from a college drop out? Here's what happened. I got accepted into the University of Chicago about 4 years ago, and I attended the institution for about a year and a half. Toward the end of my first year and into the beginning of my second year, I had stopped going to classes and received failure/withdrawn grades. As a result, I was suspended from the University of Chicago in early 2011. A couple years have passed since then, and I feel like I'm much more mature and appreciative of my education. I've noted this in my personal essay on the Common App. I'm also providing my High School transcript and SAT scores to the colleges, which I'm certainly more proud of than my college transcript (which I also have to send in.) My High School GPA was around 3.8 (unweighted) with a slew of Honors/AP courses, and I believe that my best SAT scores total about 2100. I'm primarily asking this question because I'm concerned about something that I read on Austin College's website. It mentioned something about Transfer students "in good standing" being invited to apply to the college. I sense from this that they will most likely deny my application after seeing my college transcript. Now I'm more worried about all of my college applications and if they share the same corollary about accepting transfer students "in good standing". I understand that I'll most likely never go back to the University of Chicago, considering that I'll have to pay the sticker price for the first few terms after my return before I can be considered for financial aid there. However, I see this as an opportunity to graduate at another college that is pretty respectable. Am I wrong to think this way? Are community colleges and such my only option at this point? How will colleges, like NYU, view my application? @Marissa I'm not sure what you mean by "fees" that I have to "pay" back. Isn't financial aid free? The reason that U of C won't provide me financial aid at the moment is because my course completion there is below a certain rate. I think I have to have a 75% course completion rate for me to be eligible for financial aid at the University of Chicago. Other than that though, I think you are right about me bringing my GPA up at a less prestigious college...Idk if I can bring myself to attend a community college, though. I'd probably be more willing to study at one of the state universities or some other public institution, if I don't get into the colleges that I mentioned above.
    • First off, congrats for having come to the point where you're ready to tackle your education again. As far as NYU goes, you pretty much have to roll the dice. It's admissions. Nothing is guaranteed. In your application, you should be able to offer explanations, write essays, etc. I'd take that opportunity to show how much you've matured and explain why NOW you're ready for college, especially NYU. Don't worry about your past grades. There's nothing you can do about them now. The more time between those bad grades/decisions and now, the better. AdComs factor maturity into the application. If you really want to get into NYU, meet with someone on the adcom. Call. Email. Find out who they're looking for. Good luck!
  • At the iron Cactus, reservations? Price? If i was to make reservation at the Iron Cactus in north Austin, for about 50 people, how much would it cost? And in reservations, do they book the whole restaurant? or part of the restaurant?
    • Looks like you have all kinds of options about booking the whole thing or not. The price would depend on the food you order. Probably best just to call them and ask directly (512) 794-8778
  • Can I get in-state tuition? Currently I live in Puerto Rico, but want to attend a US university. I have many universities in mind but I have given serious thought to attending the University of Texas in Austin. As I was searching I saw that the out-of-state tuition is 30,000 and I simply cannot afford to pay that for every semester even with financial aid.Even if I could, I wouldn't , because I really want to attend a medical school and I would eventually have to take out a loan for that too. I remembered I have an uncle that lives with his wife, his daughter and his son in Texas and that my cousin would soon be heading out for college. I saw that the in-state tuition was approx 9,000 which is a drastic difference to what I would pay for an out-of-state tuition. My question is...can I get in-state tuition? If so, what can I do? I'm willing to do anything to get in-state tuition! I read somewhere that he needs to file me in his taxes? Something like that...Please help! The prices for these colleges are just ridiculous and I really want to study in the US! BTW I'm a sophomore and I don't want to move, I want to graduate with my current classmates. Even if I had consent from my uncle to move there and presented the option of moving with my uncle and cousins for a year (senior year) to my parents they wouldn't allow me. Asking to move there is out of the question! Thanks in advance! IMPORTANT NOTE: Puerto Ricans ARE US CITIZENS since 1917, but thanks for your input :D
    • To qualify for in-state tuition, someone who lives in the state and pays taxes to the state must be counting you on their taxes as a dependent, and must be doing so for at least a year, if not more in some states. You'd have to move there and live with your uncle. Also, UT Austin is one of the best schools in the US, and very difficult to get into. But if you graduate in the top 7% of your class from a Texas public school, you automatically get admission. That's your best bet.
  • Do you have a New Years Resolution? WQ? If you don't want to share your resolution you don't have to but mine is world piece and it always has been.It wouldn't hurt for the gas prices to drop some more also. WQ The Rock and Stone Cold has been a heated issue in the ws for a couple of weeks now,so who do you like better as the all around total package....Steve Austin or The Rock? Happy New Year!!
    • I would like to quit smoking cigarettes, i love em but they are screwing with my health big time. World peace is nice to and also i would like for the people in this world to stop complaining about little things like obesity and start worrying about bigger and better things. Theres more to life then other peoples life styles so they need to stay out of it and let people live life the way they want to live it. They don't have to like it but they can at least act like adults and deal with it because its none of their business and its not their life to worry about it only life people need to worry about is their own and their families life. BQ: I always like them both, but it was always Stone Cold Steve Austin, i was always looking forward to watching the most. The man was unpredictable and you never knew what he was going to do next. Stone Cold was a hell raiser that broke the barriers more then almost anybody. I was always a supporter of Steve Austin way back when he was just Hollywood blonde and i will always will be. People say his in ring skills were overrated and perhaps so on some occasions but there was a time when he could wrestle as good as anybody and even gave Rick Steamboat and Bret Hart a run for their money. The one thing people needs to respect about Steve Austin is when he injured his neck he didn't let that ruin his career, he did everything he could to keep the crowd entertained even if it was spraying Vince McMahon with beer or stomping mud holes in all his opponents @sses.
