Q&A
  • Rough cost to hang drywall? We are considering finishing the attic so the kids can have a playroom and I can have my office back. It has been framed and insulation is in. There is electricity in and windows hung (new windows) just need drywall put in there. As an over estimate (need to get actual measurements) the attic space is 20' x 20'. It comes to that awkward point but total floor to point height is approx. 8'. We are near Rochester and Buffalo, NY if that helps? Looking for an idea of cost and materials.
    • Your best bet is to call some local contractors or drywallers/handymen on Craigslist and get some quotes...pricing can vary on labor costs, electrical work, permits, material pricing in your area, etc.. Get exact measurements of side walls...from floor to angle where side walls (knee walls) meet roof line. A 20' X 20' room that is 8' tall will need at least 16 sheets of 4' X 10' drywall if the knee walls are 4' high and come to a peak....a common layout. Figure a few days or so labor for a two man crew to install drywall, apply two mud coats and sand, prime, paint..., install outlets, switches, lights, install trim around windows/doors, etc.. I'd estimate around 2K total or so but it depends on the variables I gave earlier and if knee walls are in place or need to be framed in.
  • Where to sell 3000+ MTG cards? There was this woman who gave me all her Magic cards. I made a couple decks but I have no use for the rest of the cards, which number beyond 3000. They're organized by type. How can I sell them? The whole lot weighs about 15 to 20 pounds, and I don't want to scare off buyers with the shipping price. Is there a shop around Rochester MN where I can sell my cards?
    • Sell them on a internet auction site such as ebay or trademe
  • From Rochester NY to new york how many toll r there n the prices?
    • Assuming you take the New York State Thruway, there is only one toll: the big one you pay on the New York State Thruway. It should be $21.90 (a bit cheaper if you use EZ-Pass). There might be one more toll if you are heading into Manhattan, depending upon your route. There are other routes where you would avoid most of the tolls.
  • Where can I get a cheap car alignment done in Rochester, NY? I've tried looking for prices online and I don't want want to call different shops. I have a 2002 Saturn SL1 series, it's a 4D Sedan. I'd like to get it done for $50, not $100. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Whats special about a Costco store? A new one will open here in Rochester MN on Friday. Is it worth my time to check it out? I saw in our local paper that a year membership costs $55. thats kind of steep unless the prices are out of this world...any thoughts?
    • The best part of Costco is buying in Bulk, the second best is the price. You save money when bulk buying, and you save trips to the store. Say you have a big family with so many mouths you have to go to the store every week... Or maybe you just hating going to the store... When you go to Costco, you bring home more quantities of everything. So it'll be longer before you run out of things and have to go back.
  • Quickest & Cheapest Way to Rochester from Isle Of Wight? Hi there, I live in the Isle Of Wight and I was just wondering if anyone does know what the quickest and cheapest way to get from Shanklin to Rochester is? I have looked on most websites like National Rail & Trainline and they both come up with the same results AND prices which makes me think that these websites are run by one operator/company etc.. My question is that is there an independent website such as Megatrain that can offer a different service, it's just that unfortunately Megatrain don't give me the option to pick and choose my destinations where as National Rail and Trainline do but at expensive prices with booking trains.
    • You might want to repost your question to the Travel-UK section where I'm sure someone will be able to answer it.
  • underground pool prices? I just built a house in Rochester Hills Michigan. I have a good size back yard that I should be able to fit any good size pool in. I have no fence yet and it would be really easy to drive around with work trucks or even cement trucks. Im on a really big corner lot. I am looking at getting a big underground pool. I even heard of above ground being put mostly under ground for taxes I guess. I would like name of companies I can call. I would also like to hear about how much your pool cost to be put in. Or if your a contractor tell me a ball park of how much it would cost this time of year to put in a pool. I wouldnt do any work myself. It would have to be atleast 40 x 20 with slide, stairs, heated, cement around sides,I would consider a jacuzzi also. I would also like to have at least a year of cleaning and open and closing of pool. 4 feet deep to 6-7 feet would be fine. Please give me some names of companys. I would like ball park prices on this. Please give me the best options and prices for this. I have no idea what kind I want to put in my yard. Thanks for reading and your comments in advance.
    • There is a huge range of pool tables that you can consider http://vinexshop.com/Product_Detail.php?CategoryId=13
  • Should I buy a crosley record player ? I saw this Crosley CR66 Rochester 5 in 1 Entertainment Center record player at target it's $80 but I don't know if I should buy it. It $40 off from its original price, it's at a temporary price cut. Should I get it now or will the price keep on going down? Is this a good brand?
    • Its a piece of junk, dont do it. Any of these really cheap turntables are honestly a bad representation of what analog records can and should sound like. A decent turntable setup honestly is closer to $400 anything less than that dont bother. Kevin
  • Electricity and gas bill in Rochester, NY? My fiancé and I live in NC right now, but we are looking into buying a home in the Rochester, NY area. Right now, we live in a 1,700 sq foot home and the house we are looking into buying is a 2,224 sq foot house. We're usually very good about our electric...right now our bill only runs between $60-85 a month. I was wondering if anyone knows what the electric would run for the bigger home? I know I can't get an exact price but can someone give me an estimate? I would also like to know if anyone has a similar size home with natural gas for heat. In our 1,700 sq foot home the gas runs us $170 a month during the coldest months of winter. Would anyone know how much it would run us with the bigger home? I would appreciate any help! Thank you! :)
    • You can contact Rochester Gas & Electric and give them the property address, and they can provide you with a monthly budget figure based on past electric and gas usage at that property. They probably won't know the number of people that lived there, but if you're looking at that specific property, the listing agent should be able to tell you if it was a family or not. My house is close to 1,800 sq ft, a 2-story. I'm not on a budget, but pay monthly, and I don't track it all that closely. All I know is that my monthly electric bill runs somewhere around $250 in summer when I run the air conditioning, and $80 or so the rest of the year. The gas bill in the three coldest months averages close to $300. This year, March was abnormally warm, and my combined electric and gas for February and March was only $410 - I'll probably never see that again in my lifetime. But remember, this is western NY, not NC. I would expect to see your heat bills be more and your A/C somewhat less.
  • College student looking for a new place to live? I am a 19 year old college student from Rochester, NY and I can't stand it here anymore. I'm looking to move away. I'd prefer to move to a place that has a vibrant downtown area (low price of living and low crime rates would be great) and that a lot of young people live in. I'm not an outdoorsy kind of person so I'm not too concerned with things like hiking trails and outdoor life, I'm more of a city kind of girl. I really dislike heavy winters and humidity. Any suggestions?
