Q&A
  • How will Scottish independence affect the price of posh Edinburgh flats? My daughter want to buy one but I have to help financially.
    • Real estate is generally a good investment. Sure there are peaks and valleys, but over the long haul, it is a winner. It is nice of you to help your daughter. Sadly, it is needed these days. If it is a good property, in a good location, she should go for it. As the others have said, this could take years, and have a minimal impact.
  • How much is the Vue Cinema Food Prices? I'm going to Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh on Saturday and I'm wondering how much it is there for a Large Juice and a Large popcorn, or at any other vue cinemas, Thanks. Sean
    • Well the prices range from expensive to complete rip off. Just buy some stuff from a newsagent and smuggle it into the cinema.
  • Where can i buy shisha, hooka, nargile sticks/ pens.. in edinburgh glasgow areas? i live in Edinburgh.. was wondering where i can buy shesha sticks / pens... preferably in the areas of Glasgow Edinburgh Dundee or websites?? preferable cheap ones ? as i am gonna order a several... thanks!!! :)
    • Have you looked on Amazon? They sell a huge variety of shishas etc... And at much cheaper prices than I have seen in any stores.
  • shipping my car within the uk? hi please , i wanna send a car for export and i dont have the right papers to drive in the UK. is there any cheap service that can pick my car from Edinburgh to the port of London for a cheap price. i got an estimate of 275 and i think its too much for a Nissan almera 2002. cheers.
    • 275 is a very good price. It will use about £250 worth of diesel alone for the trip on a truck. I would expect more than that to truck it from Scotland to London. The cost of transport is nothing to do with the value of the car. It comes down to the cost for the truck, fuel and driver. I have had my car recovered at more than its value before now fortunately I was not paying.
  • Are 125cc Chinese motorcycles a good or bad buy? I'm purchasing my first 125cc motorcycle next month and wanted views on the Chinese motorcycles. They appeal to me for the price and warranty available but are they worth buying or should I spend £1000 on something else? Any advise is much appreciated. Thanks
    • my local dealer does lexmoto there is no parts problem & the engine's are based on well known jap engines , also BMW have one of the GS single cylinder engines made in china, buy from a good dealer you should have few problems,, they are where the japs were in the 60's everything people are saying now is just the same as was said about the jap bikes, the chinese have trouble with the wires but so do the italians buy from a good dealer who deals with other makes have a talk with them, I Have a friend doing leeds to john o grotes to lands end & back to leeds on a chinese 125 at the present time he has just left edinburgh, http://www.facebook.com/groups/toptobottomride/623514177662796/?ref=notif¬if_t=group_activity
  • how can i get to Aberdeen at a better price? every bus or train company that i look on to get a train or bus from edinburgh to aberdeen costs £30. megabus costs £30 and their discount cards dont go to aberdeen. citylink costs £30 even with the young person discount card. every time i try and look at coach times with national express coaches it just says, "Sorry, we were unable to find any results. Please modify your search criteria in the “Change Your Journey” section." oh and all the trains cost £30 to get to aberdeen even with my 16-25 railcard. there must be a way thats cheaper to get to aberdeen from edinburgh. i dont wanna break the bank every time i go to see my friend.
    • Book your rail tickets well in advance for specifically timed trains at off peak periods. Just glancing at the Scotrail site for a few seconds I found a single ticket from Edinburgh to Aberdeen at 1-28pm on the 28th of November for £10-90 (before the railcard discount) www.scotrail.co.uk
  • Are you proud of the academia in the UK? This is a quote from a story about a curry eating competition: One of those affected, Korean student Curie Kim, 21, told the ‘Edinburgh Evening News’ how she had to go to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (ERI) twice. She said: “I've always enjoyed spicy foods and thought this was for a good cause. But it came with a price, I had to be taken to the ERI twice. “I first went to hospital at around 4pm and the second time was at 9pm. It got really bad. I have never endured such pain in my life.” The future is bright, unlike students
    • No. You only have to read the appalling grammatical and spelling errors on this site,to realise how bad our education has become.
  • Does anyone know how to split a train ticket and get a cheap fare? I need to travel between Banbury to Edinburgh in September. I have tried breaking up the trip by splitting the ticket between stations but it just ends up more expensive. I'm using the trainline.com to get my prices. Is there a better website I can use? The cheapest I can get is around £120
    • Try National Rail Enquiries and Cross Country Trains, tickets are not yet available but in August it could be £61 on a Sunday (and Bus to Coventry!) or £88 on a Thursday afternoon
  • How much roughly is a 8 or 10 seater taxi from Eastcalder to Edinburgh? I am wondering how much roughly the taxi would be from the cheapest company? Probably Calder Cabs? I don't know if they do 10 seater taxis or what exact seaters they do. If there is an even bigger seater taxi then please tell me the prices of that as well. Thanks.
    • Might I suggest you contact them direct to ask them as they would probably have the answers you seek. If they don't know no-one does. ?
  • Good Steak in Edinburgh? Where is the ONE place to have awesome steak (sirloin / tenderloin) in Edinburgh at a reasonable price (say 15-20 pounds)?
    • OK... Champany Inn Restaurant, Chop and Ale House, Cellars and Rooms Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland. EH49 7LU. Tel: 01506 834532 Fax: 01506 834302 AMAZING STEAK although 20 miles away and a bit expensive. (You can even take it home if you've had enough!) THE WEE RESTAURANT 17 Main Street, North Queensferry, Fife, Scotland KY11 1JG Phone : 01383 61 62 63 Also really good (I would also recommend the mussels)
