Q&A
  • Where to go on holiday this summer? My family all like to do different things on holiday, we have a list of things that everyone would require to go and is reasonable: 25-30 degree heat (no warmer) with guaranteed good weather. Some stuff to do (cultural preferably). Pretty place. Low energy stuff to do, like lie on a beach (my sister can't do challenging activities due to illness) and as cheap as possible! Any ideas would be great! Thanks :)
    • Cheap , sunny , good prices , hotels , beaches , restaurants - good food , I would choose Poland in Gdansk it can be a very romantic place to go there for honeymoons , family holidays and it is a place where you have lots to do and many people can speak a bit of English and German so you will find your way around even though they speak Kashubian and some Polish you will be able to have a great time! Port City Hel Peninsula Neptunes Fountain Westerplatte Long Market and Sobieszowa Island are just a few things you can do in this amazing city in the Tri City , you could also choose Sopot and Gdynia which are very close to Gdansk with two international airports so it is very fast and easy to travel , Sopot is a bit more ''expensive and a luxury'' place but there are some cheaper holidays and hotels to do there and Gdynia is a very beautiful city with lots of modern and old atractions .
  • Is Obama doing the same thing as Gierek did before he declared martial law? Giereks Bio , like Gomułka in 1956, came to power on a raft of promises that everything would be different from now on; that wages would rise, prices would remain stable, there would be freedom of speech, and those responsible for the violence at Gdynia and elsewhere would be punished. Although Poles were much more sceptical than they had been in 1956, Gierek was believed to be an honest and well-intentioned man, and his promises bought him some time. He used this time to create a new economic program, one based on large-scale borrowing from banks
    • Poland has a history of being ruled by an absolute monarchy so his actions of martial law were accepted. The United States have a history of freedom. If a president declared general, other than local, martial law in instances other than a natural disaster (such as hurricane Katrina), I do not believe that the army would obey the order. End of dictator-to-be.
  • Recommendation for a dentist in Gdansk? Can anyone recommend a good, English-speaking dentist in Gdansk or Gdynia? My boyfriend needs extensive dental work, which is really expensive at Norwegian prices!
    • Try this one: http://annadentalclinic.com/en/
  • I will be in port (cruise ship) Gdynia Poland for the day.? What is the best way to get to Sztutowo concentration camp called Stutthof? If anyone knows the price of a taxi? I don't think renting a car is a good idea. I can only read english. Thanks for any help.
    • I went to Gdynia last summer and taxis are pretty cheap, but thats depending on how far away Sztutowo is, because in Poland they have money called zloty which is like 1 american dollar = like 2 or 3 zloty.
  • how do you get from a cruise ship docked at Gdynia into town? I'm taking a cruise to the Baltic, and we're docking at Gdynia for a few hours. I don't want to take their over-priced excursions and just want to wander round either Gdynia or Gdansk for a couple of hours. Do you know where the cruise ships dock and how easy it is to get into town?
    • First of all: http://www.gdynia.pl/?lang=en I can't be sure where exactly cruise ships do dock, but some sources indicate that's the Molo Poludniowe (The Southern Quay), which is, in fact, the end of the main city street. Most places worth seeing in Gdynia (the Oceanarium, Naval Museum, a sight-seeing point on the Kamienna Góra) are within 15 minutes walk, with Oceanarium and two museum ships at the very Southern Quay (a WW 2 -era destroyer, and former school sail ship are berthed there). With Gdansk, it's more complicated. The best, quickest and least irritating way to get there is the suburban train line, that links Gdynia, Gdansk & Sopot. This is the Oceanarium's page, but they rovide directions on how to get there, so this is likely to work both ways: http://www.aquarium.gdynia.pl/mapki.php :) Since you'll have limited time, a cruise with a ship from Gdynia to Gdansk and back is rather not an option (takes too long). There's not much to see in Gdynia (that city has quite short history, compared to Gdansk). However, Gdansk is a place where you can spend a lot of time, so you'll have to be wary. I'd suggest you'd buy city plans for both Gdynia & Gdansk. They should be available from vendors on the quay (yes, they are going to be overpriced, but hey, you can't have everything).
