Q&A
  • Planning a Europe trip with a couple buddies? Planing on going on a euro trip just to amsterdam belgium and munich for approx 15 days for summer 2014 july. Budget is approx 4000 cdn dollars is this doable? OR Should i save more love the nightlife drinking and what not
    • for those countries the prices will be quite expensive except Amsterdam... you will need more...because per day you will need food : 25-50, Drinks : from 20-80 it depends on the place...transports are cheap but for the hotels you really need to search well before you start!! I recommend you to take at least 500 more!! You can also visit other places to like south or southeast europe because prices there are much more cheaper!!! P.S even if you choose to be really care-foul with the money you spent you will have a good time!! And plan to Go to the Tomorrowland on Belgium!! ;) http://www.tomorrowland.be/
  • Was I overcharged to mail a package to the Netherlands? It went first class and weighed 5.5 oz. Not pounds, but ounces. It was less than 3" high and about 8" X 10 ". I was charged $12.75. If this charge was accurate and standard, then I will never use the USPO again to mail a gift to Holland.I will E-Mail gift cards.
    • The cost for packages to from the US are ridiculous. I wanted to send a birthday card to Europe and it was a hair larger then the standard envelope: they wanted me to pay for package ...... The price sound about right but it is not reasonable. A full 40 feet container which carries 20 metric tons = 50,000 lbs New York to Amsterdam costs about 2000 $ .....
  • Cheapest railway option to travel in Europe? hi fellas, I am planning a euro trip through train. travels will include , switzerland, sweden, Norway, Amsterdam, Copenhagen. now the question is whats the cheapest option? I understand there are euro passes which i could use throughout Europe. any advice?
    • There is an excellent site that explains rail travel in much more detail than there is room for in an answer here: http://www.seat61.com/ . It is often cheaper to buy individual tickets rather than a railpass, but sometimes railpasses can be a significant savings. It really depends on the specifics of your trip. With railpasses, you still need to make reservations on many high speed, international and night trains and you need to pay a supplement beyond the price of the pass for those trains. Individual tickets for the same trains can be discounted if you purchase the tickets in advance. The Man in Seat 61 site explains how to determine whether a railpass or individual tickets is better for your specific trip. It also will help you determine which pass (if any) is best for you and how to use a pass if you have one. this includes information on what to avoid to get the most out of a pass. The site includes links to the various national train sites where you can find schedules and the prices of individual tickets. The German train site is one of the best for finding connections throughout most of Europe: http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml , but you'll need the national sites for booking trains on much of your route when you've found the options that suit you.
  • Cost of Take That concert tickets? 10 pts!? Hi, I'm from the U.S. and trying to plan and get tickets for a future TT tour (maybe 2014?? let's hope). Well my question is how much have the tickets run in the past? E.g., front row tickets (front of the stage) versus on the side of the stage, and further back. Thanks to any Thatters
    • Hey There. As a 30th Wedding anniversary present for my parents, me and my sister bought my them tickets to see the TT Progress Tour (18 July 2011) In Amsterdam. There were four different types of seats i could purchase. This is a link to a stage plan of the concert that took place. http://www.eventtravel.com/Amsterdam-Arena-Take-That-2011 1) Standing on the Pitch: 100 Euros- Goes to 131 Dollars 2) Sitting: Section No. 101-108 and 119-124: 85 Euros- Goes to 111 Dollars 3) Sitting: Section No. 401-407 and 419-425: 75 Euros- Goes to 98 Dollars 4) Sitting: Section No. 125-129 and 426-430: 60 Euros- Goes to 78 Dollars Now obviously, I can't say for certain that these prices are going to be exactly right, but that is my best estimate. I hope that this helps you with what you were looking for and I do hope you manage to get tickets for them live.
  • Amsterdam Help??! top rating for answer? Which hotel is the better one to stay in? Both are pretty much the same price and seem to be of the same distance away from the city centre. I've never been to Amsterdam and wonder if one area/hotel is slightly better then the other? Bastion Deluxe Hotel Amsterdam/Centrum-Noord - north http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g188590-d275402-Reviews-Bastion_Deluxe_Hotel_Amsterdam_Centrum_Noord-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html Best Western Blue Square - west http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g188590-d1082642-Reviews-BEST_WESTERN_Blue_Square_Hotel-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html I appreciate your help! Top rating for advice, thanks~ Thank you but I can book either of these hotels + flights for less money. I orignally wanted to stay in that area but I am just outpriced. Once again, thanks for your reply.
    • Bastion is a local chain, basic but decent. About equal to an ibis. Best western´s I´ve seen are quite shabby. The best western is on the edge of a rather less attractive part of the city. The bastion is in a slightly better neighbourhood but public transport late at night migth be a bit of a challenge.
  • I would like to rent a house boat long term, Are there any available for reasonable pricing?
    • It depends upon where you live, what you consider reasonable, where you want the boat to be moored, whether it's legal to live on a boat at all in your area and so on. In Amsterdam, houseboat living is typical and fairly reasonable. In Reno, it is not either.
  • Advice on my trip to Europe? I live in California and going on a cruise in October of this year starting in Venice, Italy and ending in Athens Greece. Now the cruise is 8 days and have 3 weeks of vacation. I would love to visit Paris a few days maybe about 3 as well as Amsterdam another 2 or 3. But never have been to Europe and do not even know if it would be possible to visit these places in that period of time. Another thing is where would be the best place to start and what would be my best option of transportation considering my luggage I don't know if I can even take on the train. Any suggestions on what routes to take? Thanks :)
    • Three weeks should be plenty of time to visit Amsterdam, Paris and take your cruise from Venice to Athens. If it were me, I would fly into Amsterdam, take the train to Paris and then take a night train on to Venice. Here are some resources that can help you plan and check options and current prices for your trip (expect prices in the future to rise): http://www.kayak.com/ - airfares & hotels; the explore function is useful for finding the less expensive places to fly into from your starting point. Tuscany is an entire region, not a town. The most convenient airports to fly into will be Pisa or Florence, but Rome or Bologna are also reasonable options. http://www.skyscanner.it/ - particularly good for budget flights within Europe, but you can also use everywhere as a destination to do something like the explore option on Kayak. You may not need the airfares, but you can compare to the cost of the trains to get around. this one may be more useful for you. http://www.seat61.com/ . This includes a huge amount of information on train travel throughout Europe - much more than there is room for in an answer here. The site has links to the various national train websites where you can find schedules and prices for trains. It also includes detailed descriptions of railpasses. This will tell you how to determine whether a railpass is worth the money for your trip (in Italy where I live railpasses are almost never worth the cost), which railpass to get, and how to use the railpass. There's also information on what to avoid in particular places. . http://www.venere.com/ - hotels/B&Bs - prices for the same hotel can vary hugely depending on the season and what local events are going on. http://www.hostelbookers.com/ - hostels. http://www.monasterystays.com/ - monasteries & convents that offer accommodations http://www.iamsterdam.com/ http://www.pariswelcome.net/metro/paris_visite.htm
  • Cheapest way to travel from Berlin to Amsterdam? Me and my friends want to make a small trip to Amsterdam and I believe the cheapest way to go is with a bus or a train. But the cheapest bus price I found is 33€ in Eurolines, and I think that is still pretty expensive for students, the train prices are even worse. If anyone knows a company with cheaper prices, it would be great.
    • Travel by bus will be the cheapest option unless you find a shared car-pool option with driver + three passengers here: http://www.mitfahrzentrale.de/index.php?landnr=D&lang=GB ..
  • Got a question about delta airlines? We're planning a trip to Amsterdam for 3 adults. We searched it up an the price in bold big letters is $344.40. But then under that it says total price, and that is $895.70. Is that the total cost for everyone together or each ticket by itself?
    • Hello, $344.40. is what we call airfare, excludes any taxes and other fees, the total price is actually what you have to pay. BTW, where are you going to fly from? Maybe we can help you to find a cheaper deal.
  • What are the current average prices of the various types of weed in Amsterdam? Going back to A'Dam next week and was just wondering what the current average prices are for the various strains of weed available? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.
    • Anywhere between 8 and 25 euros a gram.
