Well, that's two questions in one. First of all, the food. I guess food for an Indian doesn't have to be different to food for anyone else? ;-) It depends if you're going to be cooking yourself or eating take-aways or in restaurants. A home-cooked meal would cost an average of 2-5 euros. You can get readymade food in the supermarket to put in the oven/microwave for 3-7 euros (pizza, large salad, microwave dinner). Pizza or anything else delivered is €10 and up. Food in restaurants can be cheap (falafel, turkish pizza, chips & fried snacks) ie. €5, or more expensive - the sky is the limit. In general , there are cheaper restaurants where you can get a main course and a drink for around €10, usually the daily special and sometimes you have to get there befor 7 PM or so. If you can spend €20 you have a lot more choice in restaurants. Then, the travel part. Intercity travel in the Netherlands is mainly by train. If you're going to be travelling a lot, consider buying a 'NS voordeelurenkaart' - an off-peak travel discount card. It costs 55 euros but you get a 40% discount on al trainfares travelling after 9AM! You quickly earn back the cost. Plus, up to 3 friends can travel with you for the reduced price. An alternative would be to make friends with someone who already has one and get the reduced ticket price that way. Now, what to visit? Deventer (€5.70 return full price) and Amersfoort (€13.70) have nice citycenters with old buildings and museums etc. Utrecht (€19.30) is a bit further away but there's lots to do there. Arnhem - the famous Kroller Muller museum and Hoge Veluwe park! - and Nijmegen are nice, too. Google the city names for tips. Closest foreign cities are in Germany. Maybe Munster or Oberhausen?
