Is Malta a good place to go on holiday? I think I'm going in summer, probably July/August. Whats the weather like? Is the food good? Are the people nice? What things should I go and see?
    • If you like history, churches, baroque style and forts, old cities and pre-historical ruins, you found the right place. I went there and loved it. Mdina, Mosta, Valetta, so many things to see. It was a very rich island at the center of the Meditteranean power plays and commerce and it shows. It also has the oldest megalithic temple in the world at Ggantija. Impressive. Summer is tourist season, hot, full of people and with prices taking their annual climb. I would recommend early June, when the island is green, the flowers are out, and the tourist crowd is of a moderate size. The beaches themselves are very small, Malta is a rock perched over the sea. Then you have more touristy things, like jet skying, diving, boating.
  • Does anyone no much about Malta? Like best places to go and things to do....?
    • Hey I was just in Malta two weeks ago! Ok best things to do depends on what you like: Beaches- Malta is mostly made of rocky beaches, but there was a great sandy beach on the northwest part of the island called Melliha Bay. I'd recommend taking a sailling cruise to the blue lagoon during a weekday. It's just off the island of Comino, which is a short ride from Malta, and the water there is gorgeous! History- Must see Valetta, Mosta, Rabat, and Mdina. Rabat & Mdina are home to St. Paul's Catacombs and some lovely churches. Valetta has Fort St. Elmo, a war museum, and the only Anglican Church on Malta. Fun- Go to the travel agents and book some activities. The Sicily day trip to Mt Etna is awesome!! I'd also recommend a scuba dive and a sailing trip. If you're looking for clubs then go to a place called St. Julians. At night they have a long strip of clubs with a variety of music to dance the night away. Tips- Use the buses! They're amazingly cheap and will get you anywhere on the island. If you're taking a taxi, ask how much the price is first and come to an agreement on the price before you go anywhere! The taxi drivers will screw you over at night. In St. Julians there is a restaurant called Paparazzi. It had the best pasta I've ever tasted and the menu is really amusing. It has an outdoor patio that overlooks the bay so I'd sit outside if you can. Also try the Cisk Lager, it's the best beer I've honestly tasted and it's dirt cheap.
  • Where should I go on holiday this year? I am considering either Italy (Venetian Riviera), Cyprus (Paphos) or somewhere in Malta. I have never been to any and would like more information. I am looking for hot weather, sand and sea as well as lots of bars and restaurants. I also want things to do, places to go and things to see while I am there. I am looking for something a little different from your typical holiday to Spain. Lastly I am looking for a self catering holiday and am willing to pay £500-£700 depending on how good the place I am going is. Any suggestions or advice would be great. Thanks.
    • malta's gonna give you all that. weather's really hot, sun's always shining, beaches are EVERYWHERE (they're especially nice in gozo, where they're not as crowded) nightlife is great especially if you're going to sliema, st.julians or paceville. prices at restaurants vary, but you'll find that some can be really cheap if you shop around. the food is great in malta too. drinks are also really cheap. there are ALOT of places to visit all round malta. malta has an extremely rich history, dating back to times even before stongehenge and the pyramids. you'll find temples, churches, catacombs, knights' palaces, museums, fortified towns...all worth seeing. tradition and culture are also very rich in malta, especially in gozo. one piece of advice: if you want a quiet relaxing holiday - go to gozo. it's one of malta's three main islands - it's more quiet and peaceful than the main island but you'll still find many places to visit. if you want to have a blast, go to malta and find a hotel around sliema or st.julians, where you'll be closest to shops, entertainment and great night-life. places of interest: Mdina, Buskett, Citadel, Valletta, st. John's cathedral, Mnajdra, Ramla bay, comino, Ggantija, mosta church, museum of fine arts, birgu waterfront, paceville, sliema.....
  • About how much would it cost to go to Malta? I am trying to plan my vacation to Malta, and I would love some advice on how much to set aside for our budget. I am planning a vacation for me and my boyfriend, a romantic getaway. We are wanting to stay for about a week. I am just trying to figure out how much it will cost for the hotel and food mainly... I can figure out the cost of the flight easily enough online. If you have traveled to Malta, could you let me know about how much you spent? Thank you! PS We are planning on eloping there, so if you happen to have any advice on that it would be much appreciated!
    • We spent £2000 on a hotel for 2 weeks so I'm guessing about £1000 just on accommodation then you need to add the cost of all inclusive if you plan on having food at the accommodation as well. There are some great deals for villa's actually and we found catering for ourselves was actually cheaper. We went to the supermarket there and just did a regular shop. Set aside £800 + to buy things like excursions, trips, meals and keep sakes because I won't lie Malta can be expensive really. But if you don't go daft spending it will be cheap. Whilst your there you have to try the honey and fig bread it's so yummy! And the nougat. The nougat comes in such a range of different colours and flavours. If you are going in August head to the Mosta festival at the square outside the Mosta dome. There's parades and fireworks etc. It's really good. The prices I put down you may need to put in an online calculator to work out what it is in your money.
