Q&A
  • Should I trade-in or private sell my car? I have a 2004 Suzuki Verona that I want to get rid of for a more reliable car. It has two dented doors on the passenger side, but the damages are purely cosmetic, the doors work fine, lock fine, no problems with the windows etc. It also has some engine issues, and right now, I can't afford to fix any of those things, so I'd have to sell or trade it in -as is-. I was hoping to get at least two thousand for it, as otherwise the car is in excellent shape at only 71000 miles. With these issues, which is my better bet?
    • dealer is least issue based way of getting rid of it. they will identify and fix at cost any issues you can't afford .sadly it will be reflected in trade in price but also leaves you with no hassle of selling or being stuck with it.
  • Which is better for 10 days, tour of Europe or stay in one country? I have a week off this summer, which I could extend to 10 days, and I was thinking of taking my family to Europe. I've never been to Europe, and I know there is so much to see there that 10 days would just barely scratch the surface. But I'm trying to make the best with what time I have. I've always wanted to go to Italy, but at the same time, there are so many countries nearby that I want to visit them too. But I feel that if I take a highlights of Europe tour, I won't be able to really appreciate any country because we'll be moving from one place to another all the time. But then again, staying in one country for a week would make me miss out on other places that I can visit. What is your advice in the matter? Is it better to get a tour of several countries, but spending a day or two in each country? Or is it better to just stay in one country? Yes, I know there is no definite answer to this, and it all depends on what I want more, but I would love to hear your opinion on the matter. If you have taken a tour of Europe, how was it organized? What would be a feasible tour to do in less than 10 days? I live in the US, so I would need to take travel to and from Europe into consideration. Thank for your help : )
    • You're better off limiting the area you try to cover so that you can spend more time actually seeing things rather than in transit from place to place. With 10 days in Italy, for example, you could spend 4 days in Rome, three in Florence and three in Venice. This would give you time to get pretty good coverage in each of those places and take a day trip from each. For example, from Rome you could take the train to Tivoli (Villa d'Este & Villa Adriana), Orvieto, Pompeii or Capri. From Florence, you could see Pisa & Lucca (same day), Siena, San Gimignano or Arezzo. From Venice, you could go to Verona, Treviso, Padova or Ferrara. If you want to see multiple countries choose places relatively close together like Prague and Berlin or Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris, etc. I lived in Italy the last 13 years and traveled most weekends and holidays. It's really hard to go wrong no matter where you choose to go in Europe as long as you don't overextend yourself and end up spending all your time on trains/planes/buses. Here are some resources that can help you plan and check options and current prices for your trip (expect prices in the future to rise): http://www.kayak.com/ - airfares & hotels; the explore function is useful for finding the less expensive places to fly into from your starting point. http://www.skyscanner.it/ - particularly good for budget flights within Europe, but you can also use everywhere as a destination to do something like the explore option on Kayak. You may not need the airfares, but you can compare to the cost of the trains to get around. this one may be more useful for you. http://www.seat61.com/ - a great train site with details about railpasses. It can be cheaper to buy individual tickets than passes. This site will tell you how to determine whether you're better off with a railpass or individual tickets or some combination for your trip. It also details how to use the pass and what to avoid to get the best use out of a pass. Most high speed, international and night trains require reservations and will require you to pay a supplement when you use a railpass. You need to be aware that a railpass is almost always more expensive for trains here in some places like Italy and Spain. http://www.fsitaliane.it/homepage_en.htm… - Italian train schedules and prices. Use the Italian names for cities (Milano, Venezia, Firenze, Roma) . http://www.venere.com/ - hotels/B&Bs - prices for the same hotel can vary hugely depending on the season and what local events are going on. http://www.hostelbookers.com/ - hostels. http://www.monasterystays.com/ - monasteries & convents that offer accommodations You can also look into camping or couch surfing as cheaper alternatives for accommodations. http://www.whatsonwhen.com/sisp/index.ht… - festivals, exhibitions and events http://www.backpackeurope.com/ - information & advice For sightseeing prices: check the websites for entrance fees for the museums & galleries you're interested in. I spend anywhere between nothing and 40 euro a day depending on exactly what I go to see when out exploring. For food, I spend around 25 to 50 euro for a meal, but you can eat for less. A pizza is 8 to 13 euro and a panino or wrap is around 3 to 6.50 euro in many places. You can often get food at festivals at a relatively low price. You can also shop in the markets and put some meals together for yourselves. When I travel, I like to try the local specialties and the good restaurants.
  • Where can I buy a Compaq Presario CQ61-132TU battery? I need a new one, NOT a used one. It would nice if you could set a price with a store and website. If you include a website, please include shipping. I live in Verona, Wisconsin. Thank you(:
    • You want factory parts. So, you would go to Google and type in ......compaq parts.....and find this reliable source that they recommend: http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Compaq,Computer,Parts.aspx
  • Need help with finding a book!? Okay so the book is about a girl who wins this writing contest and gets to go to Italy with her dad (who is going to go teach there) where she will partake in some classes and answers letters for Juliet from the wall in Verona. Her friends tell her to try and find a guy while there since she just ended it with her boyfriend. She ends up falling for the guy she strongly disliked at the beginning. Who's mother runs the program. So if you know what book this is please!!! Help I want to read it again and I can't remember the name... That's the price I pay for borrowing it from the library I guess :/

  • Can you translate this Elizabethan Quote from Romeus and Juliet? This is an excerpt from Arthur Brooke's "Romeus and Juliet," which came before Romeo and Juliet. Could you please translate (not exactly line by line, but so i don't miss any ideas) this into more modern english? I understand about half of it, but there are some parts I am unsure of. 1 When their new smitten hearts had fed on loving gleams, Whilst, passing to and fro their eyes, y-mingled were their beams. Each of these lovers 'gan by other's looks to know, That friendship in their breast had root, and both would have it grow. When thus in both their hearts had Cupid made his breach And each of them had sought the mean to end the war by speech, Dame Fortune did assent their purpose to advance, With torch in hand a comely knight did fetch her forth to dance; She quit herself so well, and with so trim a grace, 10.That she the chief praise won that night from all Verona race, The whilst our Romeus a place had warely won, Nigh to the seat where she must sit, the dance once being done. Fair Juliet turned to her chair with pleasant cheer, And glad she was her Romeus approachéd was so near. At th' one side of her chair her lover Romeo, And on the other side there sat one called Mercutio; A courtier that each where was highly had in price, For he was courteous of his speech, and pleasant of device. Even as a lion would among the lambs be bold, 20.Such was among the bashful maids Mercutio to behold. With friendly gripe he seized fair Juliet's snowish hand: A gift he had that Nature gave him in his swathing band, That frozen mountain ice was never half so cold, As were his hands, though ne'er so near the fire he did them hold. As soon as had the knight the virgin's right hand raught, Within his trembling hand her left hath loving Romeus caught. For he wist well himself for her abode most pain, And well he wist she loved him best, unless she list to feign. Then she with tender hand his tender palm hath pressed; 30.What joy, trow you, was grafféd so in Romeus' cloven breastThe sudden sweet delight hath stoppéd quite his tongue, Ne can he claim of her his right, ne crave redress of wrong.
    • I told you it would be a slog. You have to look up all the archaisms like "'gan" (began) individually, and look for the obsolete definitions. Some of them are even from Middle English. 1 When their new smitten hearts had fed on loving gleams, Whilst, passing to and fro their eyes, y-mingled were their beams. (their hearts fed on the loving looks they exhanged) Each of these lovers 'gan by other's looks to know, That friendship in their breast had root, and both would have it grow. (they each began to know by the way the other was looking at them that they had fallen in love) When thus in both their hearts had Cupid made his breach And each of them had sought the mean to end the war by speech, (Cupid's arrows had hit their hearts, and they wanted to talk to each other) Dame Fortune did assent their purpose to advance, With torch in hand a comely knight did fetch her forth to dance; (Lady Luck smiled on them, and caused a handsome knight to take Juliet to dance) She quit herself so well, and with so trim a grace, That she the chief praise won that night from all Verona race, ("quit"= acquit; she did so well at the dance that it would have impressed all of Verona) The whilst our Romeus a place had warely won, Nigh to the seat where she must sit, the dance once being done. (warely=cautiously; Meanwhile Romeus had sneaked over and found a chair next to where Juliet would sit after the dance was over) Fair Juliet turned to her chair with pleasant cheer, And glad she was her Romeus approachéd was so near. At th' one side of her chair her lover Romeo, And on the other side there sat one called Mercutio; A courtier that each where was highly had in price, (a highly desirable party guest) For he was courteous of his speech, and pleasant of device. Even as a lion would among the lambs be bold, Such was among the bashful maids Mercutio to behold. (he was quite a ladies' man too) With friendly gripe (grip) he seized fair Juliet's snowish hand: A gift he had that Nature gave him in his swathing band, That frozen mountain ice was never half so cold, As were his hands, though ne'er so near the fire he did them hold. (he had ice-cold hands by nature all his life) As soon as had the knight the virgin's right hand raught, Within his trembling hand her left hath loving Romeus caught. (As Mercutio was taking Juliet's right hand, Romeo was taking her left hand) For he wist well himself for her abode most pain, ("abode" here is a past tense/past partiple of "abide", meaning to wait. "Wist"= know) ("For he knew well himself that there was great pain awaiting her") And well he wist she loved him best, unless she list to feign. (and well he knew she loved him best, unless she was good at pretending) Then she with tender hand his tender palm hath pressed; What joy, trow you, was grafféd so in Romeus' cloven breast (What joy do you think carved itself into Romeus' broken heart?) The sudden sweet delight hath stoppéd quite his tongue, (Joy has made him speechless) Ne can he claim of her his right, ne crave redress of wrong. (Now I'm not quite sure of this one. "Ne" is either going to be "now" or "ne'er", and either one is going to bring a different meaning to the sentence. Flip a coin, I guess.)
  • I want to travel to Italy and I have some questions...? I'm thirteen and after I finish high school I want to travel around Italy. I've talked to a few people and seen in a magazine that to live comfortably and travel for around four to six months, you need around ten thousand dollars. I have five years so I'm going to save about forty or fifty dollars a week which will be about my total amount (I also have some money I inherited that I can use a bit of but I would rather spend it on a first car or uni). I want to travel around most of Italy and I've figured out which cities I want to go to (I've been dreaming about going there since I was seven); Rome, Genoa, Turin, Milan, Florence, Venice, Verona, Bologna, Pisa and Perugia- just as a rough idea. I've researched most of the places I want to see, but I still have a lot I need to figure out so if you can help me with any of these questions or even give me a bit of advice, I would be really grateful. - Have I got the costs right? - What is a good (and safe) but cheap airline to take from Perth to get there? - Is it easier to take a plane, stop for a while and then take a plane the rest of the way or just go the whole way on the same plane? (I don't get nauseas from flying but I can't sleep on planes) - I know trains are the cheapest form of transport in Italy, but my friend told me a story about how someone took her friend's luggage off the back of the train then placed bricks in her suitcase so she didn't notice. Does this often happen? How can I stop it from happenning? Which cities is this mostly likely going to occur? - When you go to hostels and B&Bs, can you sometimes just show up or do you always have to book? - Do all mobile phone get overseas coverage? Does it cost extra? - How long before you go to one should you book a hostel? - Can you actually work as a fruit picker on farms? How do you find out where these farms are and how do you apply? - Do many Italians speak English? How many? - At markets, can you barter or do you just pay what they've marked the price as? - Where is a good place to get fairly detailed maps of Italy and northern Italy? - Is the train system there hard to figure out? How does it work? Any answers and even extra tips or information would be really appreciated. Thanks!
    • Wow haha, so many questions! It's great that you're planning ahead, but while you're over there plan to be unplanned. You may fall in love with one place and decide to stay longer than expected, or hate another and leave in two days. I spent five months backpacking through Europe when I was 18/19 and I went with only $5000 CDN, although I did end up borrowing an extra $1000 while in Italy. As a young traveler, you can definitely travel on a budget. - Not sure. It depends how much you shop, what accommodation you'll be staying in, how many excursions and activities you want to do. -If it were me I would just take a direct flight. There might even be a connection, with a short break between! - I had no problems on the plane at all. As for luggage, I highly recommend traveling with a backpack rather than a suitcase. It's much easier to lug around. But do buy little luggage locks to lock your zippers. There are also huge wire-net things that wrap around the entire backpack if you're that worried. I would recommend just keeping your bag by your feet if you can or just not falling asleep. If you're going to sleep, make sure your body is somehow over your bag so a thief would have to physically move you to get to it(ex, legs over it/using it as a pillow, etc.) Trains are cheap and comfortable. - I would stay in hostels. They are fabulous places to meet people. I would book ahead online just so you know you have a place to stay. - I would bring a mini laptop rather than a phone, because yes I think you'd get charged roaming. Or buy one over there. - I'd say two days ahead of time... or a week, whenever you know for sure what day you'll be arriving in the city. - I found most italians had trouble with english, but were VERY willing to help when I was lost with hand signals and other things. You figure it out. -Yes, BARTER. -Train system is really easy. You can go to the station an hour before you want to leave and buy a ticket.
  • Please recommend a good restaurant in Verona, Italy? I'm going to celebrate my anniversary with my wife and I want to eat lunch and dinner in two different restaurants in Verona. What I'm looking if for a not touristy, not crowded, not tourist trap, good food, with decent price where locals eat. I don't care if they speak English I know a little Italian. I want to experience the Italian food but looking in other web sites makes the places popular and crowded and I think sometimes best score are not real ones. I hope you understand what I mean. I don't care to pay a little more for excellent food what I don't like are tourist traps. For example No more than 15 Euro for the first course selection and that the Table Wine or the most economic bottle of Wine is no more than 20 Euro. If possible that they have selection of Wine by the glass this way I can taste different ones. I went to a restaurant once in Italy that payed 20 Euro for a Merlot and 2 blocks after saw the bottle in a supermarket for 4 Euro for me that is not an honest business making more than double for something is just plain stealing. If you have eat good food and decent prices in Verona please share.
    • Hi I advise you this website. in this link you find the research I did it for you. • What is the cheapest and easiest way of Getting from Verona to Florence? I am visiting Italy this week and will be staying just outside of Verona. Whilst there I want to visit florence, but have noticed it is not the easiest journey. Can someone give me an idea of Prices and the best way to get there please.
    • The easiest way if you don't have a car is to take the train. I live about an hour south of Verona and sometimes take the train to Florence Saturday or Sunday just for lunch. There's a Eurostar train at 6:01 am that will get you to Florence at 8:14 for 29,50 € in 2nd class. Or there's a regional train to Bologna leaving Verona at 6:59 am that will get you to Florence at 10:24 am with a change in Bologna for 16,25 €. That one goes to the Rifredi station, you can hop a local for the last few minutes to Santa Maria Novella station or just take the intercity train from Bologna that goes directly there. There are several other options: http://orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/nppPriceTravelSolutions.do?car=0&stazin=verona&stazout=florence&datag=28&datam=07&dataa=2009&timsh=3&stazin_r=Staz_DA&stazout_r=Staz_A&timsm=34&timsm_r=34&lang=en&nreq=5&channel=tcom&npag=1&lang_r=en&nreq_r=5&channel_r=tcom&npag_r=1&x=28&y=15
