Q&A
  • What brand of hair extensions are well known but the least expensive? I'm an African American girl and I'm getting my hair fixed next Friday for Prom. I'm looking for either clip in extensions or sew in extensions. The closest beauty supply store to me is Joy Joy Beauty in Athens, Ga. My hair is almost shoulder length but I want to add like, 5 more inches with my hair extensions I might be getting. What do you think the price range would be on the hair extensions? Thank you for the help! :)
    • A simple answer to your question is http://www.hairextenxions.com/. You can get a variety of hair extensions there. You just need to order them online. Just Go to the website and you can choose from a wide range of variable extensions. As per the price is concerned, It starts nearly from $150.00 and goes up with the type, colour and grade of the extensions.
  • 10 Free Pts. :) How much would clip in/sow in hair extensions cost? I'm an African American girl and I'm getting my hair fixed next Friday for Prom. • Hair Extensions Question. 10 Free Pts.? I'm an African American girl and I'm getting my hair fixed next Friday for Prom. I have thick black hair. • Hi Jasmine, If you are looking for a permanent look you would go with sewn in hair extensions, althou i wouldnt recommend them. If you are looking only for a prom night WOW look, go with clip ins. The are not permanent and you can clip and go whenever you want. About the length they go from 8" to 40 "and more, but its better not to over do it as they would look fake. Try 18" to 22", its a natural length. Prices, they range from 90 to even 600 bucks. and of course the price doesn't always go with the quality, that is, if they are cheap it doesn't mean they are bad (altho its almost always like that) and if they are very expensive it doesn't mean they are the best. So in my opinion, buy some that are between 140-200 dollars. Its your best bet. Just make sure you read very well their policies on exchanging and returning, they have good colors, good clips, see if they are remy human hair ( very important) type of hair ( indian, chinese, european etc) and well designed so it looks natural. Indian hair fits almost every hair type, european wont fit because its very thin for you and chinese its thicker hair and very flat, so it depends on what kind of hairstyle you want. If you are going with the Naomi Campbell straight and bangs, go with chinese. If you want Kim Kardashian volume and waves, go with Indian or chinese, just make sure the ones you buy hold the styling very good too. Hope I helped! AG
  • 10ptsASAP-- How exactly did the Ancient Greek united to decide politics? All I've heard so far is that only males were considered citizens and they gathered in a place called Agora. I'm like, did they vote or just talk? What did they talk about? Did they decide the prices of things, just like our politicians do today? Were there taxes? How exactly was it?
    • In the year 507 B.C., the Athenian leader Cleisthenes introduced a system of political reforms that he called demokratia, or “rule by the people.” Although this Athenian democracy would survive for only two centuries, Cleisthenes’ invention was one of ancient Greece’s most enduring contributions to the modern world. The Ekklesia Athenian democracy was made up of three important institutions. The first was the ekklesia, or Assembly, the sovereign governing body of Athens. Any member of the demos--any one of those 40,000 adult male citizens--was welcome to attend the meetings of the ekklesia, which were held 40 times per year in a hillside auditorium west of the Acropolis called the Pnyx. (Only about 5,000 men attended each session of the Assembly; the rest were serving in the army or navy or working to support their families.) At the meetings, the ekklesia made decisions about war and foreign policy, wrote and revised laws and approved or condemned the conduct of public officials. (Ostracism, in which a citizen could be expelled from the Athenian city-state for 10 years, was among the powers of the ekklesia.) The group made decisions by simple majority vote. The second important institution was the boule, or Council of Five Hundred. The boule was a group of 500 men, 50 from each of ten Athenian tribes, who served on the Council for one year. Unlike the ekklesia, the boule met every day and did most of the hands-on work of governance. It supervised government workers and was in charge of things like navy ships (triremes) and army horses. It dealt with ambassadors and representatives from other city-states. Its main function was to decide what matters would come before the ekklesia. In this way, the 500 members of the boule dictated how the entire democracy would work. Positions on the boule were chosen by lot and not by election. This was because, in theory, a random lottery was more democratic than an election: pure chance, after all, could not be influenced by things like money or popularity. The lottery system also prevented the establishment of a permanent class of civil servants who might be tempted to use the government to advance or enrich themselves. However, historians argue that selection to the boule was not always just a matter of chance. They note that wealthy and influential people--and their relatives--served on the Council much more frequently than would be likely in a truly random lottery. The third important institution was the popular courts, or dikasteria. Every day, more than 500 jurors were chosen by lot from a pool of male citizens older than 30. Of all the democratic institutions, Aristotle argued that the dikasteria “contributed most to the strength of democracy” because the jury had almost unlimited power. There were no police in Athens, so it was the demos themselves who brought court cases, argued for the prosecution and the defense, and delivered verdicts and sentences by majority rule. (There were also no rules about what kinds of cases could be prosecuted or what could and could not be said at trial, and so Athenian citizens frequently used the dikasteria to punish or embarrass their enemies.) Jurors were paid a wage for their work, so that the job could be accessible to everyone and not just the wealthy (but, since the wage was less than what the average worker earned in a day, the typical juror was an elderly retiree). Since Athenians did not pay taxes, the money for these payments came from customs duties, contributions from allies and taxes levied on the metoikoi. The one exception to this rule was the leitourgia, or liturgy, which was a kind of tax that wealthy people volunteered to pay to sponsor major civic undertakings such as the maintenance of a navy ship (this liturgy was called the trierarchia) or the production of a play or choral performance at the city’s annual festival.
  • The Libyan Revolution (2011)? What were the social and political conditions before, during and after the Libyan Revolution?
    • Libyans proved that peace and prosperity are possible for all. Now, what Libya did sounds even more glorious and is the best hope for humanity today! Power from God, power in man, power to the people. Think of the "Summer of Love" and then think of something 10x better and real and true. It was a really "good scene", truly civilized. History of Libya under Muammar Gaddafi (wiki): according to volume two of Gaddafi's Green Book, which appeared in 1978, private retail trade, rent, and wages were forms of "exploitation" that should be abolished. Instead, workers' self-management committees and profit participation partnerships were to function in public and private enterprises. A property law was passed that forbade ownership of more than one private dwelling, and Libyan workers took control of a large number of companies, turning them into state-run enterprises. Retail and wholesale trading operations were replaced by state-owned "people's supermarkets", where Libyans in theory could purchase whatever they needed at low prices. By 1981 the state had also restricted access to individual bank accounts to draw upon privately held funds for government projects. Gaddafi's efforts also improved the average health of Libyans. In 2009, the CIA's World Factbook showed the average life expectancy of a Libyan to be 77 years (only one year less than that of an American citizen). During the 1970s, the government succeeded in making major improvements in the general welfare of its citizens. By the 1980s Libyans enjoyed much improved housing and education, comprehensive social welfare services, and general standards of health that were among the highest in Africa. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Libya_under_Muammar_Gaddafi The Green Book has been compared to the Republic of Plato or the Democracy of Athens, by Aristotle and even the Qu'ran. It has to to with a set of "educational and ethical standards and levels". http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhbY1L99vqWpOiHA0C4CyMgjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20060819012333AAz6iZP To rule themselves by themselves. In the final analysis this is the greatest achievement of the Great Al Fateh Revolution which began the green march on September 1 1969 - PEOPLE'S POWER. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/8744/libfacts.htm The Green Book is about idealism which was in practice in Libya. I think the main part is about participatory democracy and about the source of power in people and "people's power". It is an idealism that accepts everyone, but some people think they would do better on their own, in capitalism. • Travel by train from Greece to Ukraine? I live in Athens and I want to travel to Ukraine. I don't want to spend much money, that's why I don't want to travel there by plane and I think train is better, maybe not as fast but definitely cheaper. I've been searching how to get to Ukraine (Dniepropetrovsk) by train but I can't find anything. Could someone help me?
    • It will consume a lot of time. You will have to travel through Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Western Ukraine and only then you'll be able to get to Dnepropetrovsk. There are other options - through Turkey and Southern Russia for instance. But it won't be easier either. Lots of changes, Moldavian and Ukrainian trains are different from other European ones... border control... you'll be exhausted. And I don't think that the total costs of all tickets would be much less than the airline ticket. Really, it isn't worth it if you only want to save some money. I would understand, if it was a thirst for adventure... If you have time there are other options; e.g. to buy airline tickets for better price. 8 weeks rule + specific days of the week etc. Look them up on the net.
  • Astor Hotel Greece, Athens? I'm wondering how much the wifi is there as I'm going on holiday, just wondering if anybody has been and knows the prices because I haven't had a reply from them, many thanks!

  • How to advertise house sale overseas? I want to sell my summerhouse in a Greek island and my flat in Athens, and would like to advertise overseas and to other European countries in hope of catching a better price. Where is the best place to advertise?
    • When I started in real estate in 1978 prints ads were very important. Now I think these sorts of things are a waste of time and money. Websites provide a world wide searchable data base. Be sure that the photos and other material and data are truthful and very inviting- paying for the marketing help of a real estate broker would be worthwhile- a certain photo may be attractive to a Greek but very unattractive to a different nationality.

  • Leaving for Athens next week.. where can i find some nice shoe stores? I want to get some nice pair of boots and dresses in reasonable prices where is the best place to go. Also whats the average price for a nice pair of boots and a dress? thank you
    • Hermou and Voulis streets are well known for their shoe stores. Both are on the lower side of Syntagma. Soon it will be official sales season and prices will be lower than usual. If I'm not mistaken it starts at the following week. So don't rush into buying anything if you have enough time.
