    Help for buying my first electic guitar? I've been playing guitar for about 3 years, but due to a lack of funds have been using my Washburn Lyon Acoustic for everything I play. The time has come to buy an electric, and I don't know quite what to buy. I play a lot of different stuff, but I mostly play punk or alternative. I also highly enjoy playing metalcore, and will probably be playing that a lot once I get the electric, but seeing as I don't have an electric guitar, that has been a bit of a challenge so far. My price range is around $400-500. I found a Gretsch Pro Jet at a local Cash Converters for around $450, but I heard that wouldn't be ideal for metal. I've also been checking out Schecters, and the Omen-6 or the Omen Solo both look quite nice. I've also seen other guitars for around the same price, but I've been told that either of the Schecters would probably be the best bet. Again, I'm not highly experienced with electric guitars and would like a bit of help deciding. Suggestions for different guitars are welcome as well. Thanks in advance guys! :)

  • help with harps????? Hello, I've been looking through multiple websites to find a harp and came across Sylvia Woods Harp Center, Harps etc. and Harp connection. I'm a beginner and was looking for a celtic harp to purchase. Is there any experienced harpist/harper out there that should tell me the price range of my first harp. I'm looking for a fully levered harp, preferably from lyon and healy or salvi. But of course, if you have years of experience and have better, or cheaper suggestions I'd like to hear then, I can't find any places in nyc that that sells harps so I have no choice but to go online to search. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone took the time out to give me more knowledge on them. 3 hours ago - 4 days left to answer.

    • I would definitely go with Lyon and Healy. Those are the only harps that my instructor ever recommends. She is a professional, having been taught by Alice Chalifoux, who was one of Salzedo's students. She also is the instructor for one of the champions of the National AHS competition(and she also plays a Lyon and Healy). You apparently have good taste, because those are the top two brands of harp. I have a Lyon and Healy Prelude that has the best sound that I have ever heard in a lever harp and better than a some pedal harps, including mine. I am really going to miss it when it sells. Troubadours are also a great harp. No matter what harp you get, though it's a lot of fun and a worthwhile hobby.

    • Your best bet is craigslist. That's a very inexpensive guitar; I can't give you a price without knowing its model but assume you're going to get half of its original cost.

    How much does it cost to rent a room in Lyon, France? I am choosing a region in France to work as an English teaching assistant and enroll in a French university. Paris seems really expensive. How expensive is life in Lyon? I dont need a large space. I can share bathrooms, kitchens, ect... What's realistic as far as rent prices go?

    • Ernst&Young have calculated that for the same quality of life, the budget for Lyon comes out 30% lower than the budget for Paris. That way you really would save an amount of money.     • This is the price for UGC Ciné Cité Lyon: Adult/standard - 9.50 Morning - 5.50 (for all 11am showings) Group/school group - 5.50 (minimum 20 people) Under 18 - 6.20 (identification/proof required) Student/apprentice - 6.20 (identification/proof required) The same price applies in UGC Astoria, but for UGC Lyon Part Dieu 2 and Part Dieu 4, the adult/standad ticket is 8.90 while the rest remains the same. Pathé cinema is another large cinema chain, and this is for Cinéma Lyon Pathé Cordeliers: Adult/standard - 7.50 Under 12 - 5.30 Students/school group - 6.00 Senior (over 60) - 6.60 Job seeker/large family - 6.60 The prices for other Pathé cinema is different, so check the links number 3 and 4 below.
