Q&A
  • Where is the best location/residence to live in grenoble? I will be attending grenoble School of Management in Fall of 2013 and I am curious to where most of the students live? I have done some research but I was hoping to learn what the most popular spots to live were. Any information would be helpful! Thanks:)
    • YOU SHOULD ADR. THIS QUESTION TO THE SCHOOL. ALSO INQUIRE ABOUT ANY DORMITORY & OFF CAMPUS QUARTERS..VIA INTERNET YOU MAY ALSO GET GRENOBLE'S LOCAL NEWS PAPER WITH RENTAL LISTINGS. CONTACT THE FRENCH CONSULATE NEAREST YOU, THEY CAN BE VERY HELPFUL AS WELL. GRENOBLE BEING A BIG TOURIST ATTRACTION, IT MAY NOT BE EASY TO FIND LOCAL LODGING, ESPECIALLY AT A REASONABLE PRICE,YOU MAY HAVE BETTER LUCK IN SM. SURROUNDING TOWNS & LOOK AT HE INN' S / BED & BREAKFAST. THEY ARE MOSTLY FAM. RUN & HAVE GOOD HOME COOKED MEALS & GOOD SIZE HELPINGS, . ENJOY YOUR TIME THERE, TAKE CARE.
  • Where is the best place to learn French? I'm planning on studying abroad next fall, and one of my biggest dilemas, is figuring out which city I should study in. I can either study in Paris or Grenoble. I went to Paris last christmas, and loved it. However, I don't want to limit myself just because I know for sure that I'll enjoy it. I've heard great things about Grenoble, and I love the snow and skiing. However, my main goal for this trip, is above else to learn French. For some reason, people keep telling me a lot of people in Paris speak english, but i didn't mean anyone who spoke english. Anyways, the price difference between the two cities is about 6,000$. Paris=25,000 while Grenoble=19,000. Any experience in these cities is appreciated. Thanks! I would love to go to Quebec, but there aren't any affiliated study abroad programs at my school that are in Quebec. That means, no financial aid, and some classes won't transfer. FYI, I'm a guy.
    • I think that you will learn French in either city. You'll be doing EVERYTHING in French. Reading, the news, TV shows, signs as you're driving, shopping. That part is a given. I think that in order to decide this, you should consider what type of experience you want to have in this time you'll be there. Look at the locations, weather, recreation, etc....you'll be LIVING there for some time and this is very important to this decision. Look at which best fits your personality and the experience you wish to have.
  • chambery or grenoble ski-ing?please advise? i am looking at ski-ing for the first time and think either grenoble or chambery is a good place to get to my chosen ski resort which is tignes or les deux alpes.i will have only a few days due to looking after my family so am looking to make it nice and simple.has anybody been to either of the ski resorts from these airports and also could i stay in a hotel in either grenoble or chambery and be able to get to the resort as chalet prices are usually based on a week and are incredibly dear?thanks

  • Which study abroad program is better, AIFS and API? I'm planning on studying abroad in 2010, and I'm either going to go through the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS), or American Program International (API). I'm planning on studying in Paris or Grenoble. The price for AIFS is around $34,000, and API is around $25,000. Has anybody done a study abroad program through either of these programs, if so, how was your experience. I'm just curious if the $9,000 difference between the two is worth it.
    • Hello! My name is Natalie, a former Paris study abroad student. I saw your posting and wanted to respond with some personal and professional experience. I studied in both Paris and Grenoble my junior year with AIFS, and I now work with ISA on our Paris program. Each program has lots to offer, and there are so many different factors in choosing the right program! I used to travel to universities to speak with students directly and help them choose a program, so I would be more than happy to talk to you about your options to help you reach your decision. To get in contact with me, please feel free to email at nrulong@studiesabroad.com or call me at the office at 800-580-8826. I will be leaving for Paris shortly to be a director for one of our summer programs--if I am not available at the office should you call, I will certainly be reachable via email.

what buses go from Grenoble saint geoirs airport to Superdevoluy France? any websites for timetables and prices would be great
    • Talking to Hautes-Alpes Tourist Board the consensus is that you will require a transfer by one of the operators at the airport. They tell me that the journey is around 140 kilometres and takes around 2½ hours depending on traffic and road conditions. They also tell me there is NO bus service as such, making the suggestion you take a train to Gap (2 hours and 22 Euros) and take a taxi from there. Sorry best I can come up with.
