Q&A
  • Travel from Barcelona, Spain to Florence, Italy? I want to travel from Barcelona, Spain to Florence, Italy. I'm hoping to cover the distance over the coarse of a month. Would that be possible, and still have time to see the sights? What would be a rough estimate for traveling by train?
    • Have a look at a map, get a guidebook, work out the places you like to stay along the way, plan to see sights that interest you, check train prices on the relevant national rail websites. You have so much time, and there is so much to see. You could stop at the following places - this is a guide only as there are so many cities, towns, villages you could see on the way, but you can't do justice to them all in a month. Just pick places that you find interesting and spend a few days in each: Perpignan Toulouse Albi Carcassonne Montpellier Beziers Marseille Avignon Aix-en-Provence Arles Toulon St Tropez Nice Monaco The Italian Riviera Genoa inland to Bologna then down to Florence or down the coast (harder by train but doable) maybe Cinque Terre, not a good place at the moment due to the floods, but could be OK when you want to travel. Pisa Livorno then inland to Florence
  • Who is the highest paid rugby player in the world? I heard it was Wilkinson, but I've also heard Chabal.
    • Tricky question because club contracts with players are not generally made public, and it's tough to factor in things like exchange rates, endorsements and bonuses. That said, Wilkinson's contract with Toulon is said to be paying him a base salary of 700K Euros per year. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/8056210.stm On the other hand, Chabal's contract with Racing Metro is said to be worth 1.8 Million Euros per year. See http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/4168789/French-resistance-to-Dan-Carters-high-price . I myself have difficulty believing that Chabal is considered that much more valuable than Wilkinson, although "l'Homme des Cavernes" does have a certain marketing value that Wilkinson lacks. Nor does he have Wilkinson's long history of knee injuries. And then again, these figures may not be completely up to date. But either of those contracts puts them somewhat ahead of the best paid players in the Super-15. That would be Carter and McCaw, whose contracts are rumoured to be worth a base of about 1 Million NZ per year. That could change though, at least as it applies to the Wilkinson contract, if the Euro keeps falling. So, all that said, it appears that the best paid player in the world right now is still Chabal.

France TGV-Which station for the French Riviera? I'm taking a trip to France and after the first week in Paris, I would like to take the TGV to Southern France. I will be staying in the St. Tropez/ Sainte-Maxime area. To get from Paris to St. Maxime whats the best station to arrive at? There are several in that area and I am wondering what the best is in regards to price and proximity. I know some of the stations near there are: -Marseille -Aix en Provence -Cannes -Toulon Anybody know where I should go to?? Thank you!
    • the nearest station is saint-raphaël, which is very cloe to both St Tropez and Ste Maxime. The TGV goes there through Lyon or Marseille, some are even direct. http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train/resultats?hid=15 and then you have busses to Sainte-Maxime http://www.ste-maxime.com/fr/sejour/article20.html you should also check if going by plane to Nice is not cheaper and quicker, though (la navette Air France).
