Good first car at a reasonable price? Hi, I have about $3500 - $4000 to spend on my first car. I would like something with decent gas mileage and good safety ratings. Something dependable that will last me a while. The problem is finding cars at a reasonable price for the mileage, etc. What are some cars I should look at? And more importantly, what should i avoid? I've been looking for cars like toyota corolla, toyota echo, etc. but no such luck yet. P.S. I'm 17.
If you look on craigslist you can definitely find a car that is worth it. That will be cheaper than going to a used car dealership. As far as what type of car, that really depends on what you like. I've always heard Toyota Camrys are nice reliable cars, and you can find those for your price range I'm sure. It's tough to say what you should avoid. Just don't buy a car you don't know much about. The best thing you can do is bring someone who knows cars or even better a mechanic to take a look at it when you go. My best advice is don't rush into anything. I had problems with my old car and had to buy a different used one unexpectedly. Everyday I checked craigslist and found a nice 2000 Grand Prix for only $2500.
