Q&A
  • What are cheap places to stay in nantes or near but accessible without car?I can't find anything I can afford!? Does anyone know any really cheap place to stay in nantes in france or near it but accessible without your own car? I'm going there for a week at the end of may and am paying for myself and three others but I can't seem to find anything in my price range.. I'm desperate!
    • Have looked at Formule 1 or Ibis? Even if they are not exactly in the centre some are placed so that you can use public transport. http://formule1.voyagesdunet.com/formule1-nantes.html
  • Can anybody help me with French travel? My family are going to France in the summer and at the same time me and my friend are visiting Paris on a budget! I was hoping it would be quite simple to go visit my parents who are in Nantes but the price of getting there seems extortionate to me! Any help on cheap travel from Paris to Nantes would be much appreciated... Thanks for that. It just seems a bit absurd that I am managing to get from Edinburgh to Paris cheeper than I am from Paris to Nantes! I'm sure if I was traveling the same distance in the UK it wouldn't cost so much. Had a look at the TER website and can't seem to get a train from Paris to Nantes. Do you know if this is the case? Hey NICK Where are you getting these prices? I can't find anything under 140 euros on their site! If that was the case I would be very happy with that price... Yes that would be helpful! Because I don't see where you're getting this from!!! Thanks. I've looked at that option already. Unfortunately no trains appear to be traveling to Rennes on the day I wish to travel...
    • I am afraid there are no buses or long distance coaches between different regions simply because the rail network is so good and efficient. However you do not have to take the TGV, you can get there by TER which is considerably cheaper. Other than that you have flights which are around €170 Euros return. The cheapest would be to hitch-hike, of course. There are many lorries that drive to Nantes from Paris and drivers who would be pleased of the company, but I would not recommend this if you are a girl, and it is very much the luck of the draw.
  • France travel --Train tickets? I am planning to travel to France in September from London for 5 days holiday. I will visit Paris, Nantes, Strasbourg. I have done a certain research on the website about the tickets, such as Inter-rail tickets, the other is Euro rail Train pass. Inter-rail tickets need reservation fee for tickets (Euro 6 to 18.00). Do I need to purchase the tickets in advance, or Can I buy tickets at the ticket office on the day of travelling? I see the price for rail tickets is really expensive to purcahse on English website. Could anybody give some suggestions?
    • If you wish to purchase tickets direct from the French Rail (SNCF) website, you can do so at http://www.tgv-europe.com/ - you can sometimes get reduced ticket costs by purchasing in advance. Remember that this is only if you are purchasing point-to-point tickets, as otherwise if you are using a rail pass you can just book all the reservations from any train station in France. As you will be travelling on the TGV for each of your trips, you will need to have your seat reserved in advance (either through purchasing the full ticket in advance, or getting a rail pass and paying for the reservation fee when you can). As to whether or not you can book on the same day, you usually are able to. If you are travelling during a peak time frame, or on a public holiday, you probably want to have your reservation in advance just to be sure. Of course, if you know exactly when you want to be taking each train, then you might as well book as soon as possible just to be sure, especially if you are buying point-to-point tickets as you can save money by buying them early.

  • Cigarette Prices in France? Im travelling to Nantes soon and was wondering on cigarette prices over there as I need to know how many Euros to take Can anyone give me a rough idea as to a packet of 20 or carton of 200? Also where are the best places to buy them? Would it be a supermarket? Thanks in advance
    • Bonjour ! the price for cigarettes has just gone up this weekend in France ! There is no sale in supermarkets but only in bureau de tabac ! One packet will cost you between 4,50 and 5 euros ! It 's a bit cheaper if you buy a carton of 200 !
