Q&A
  • Who knows a lot in bikes? I want to buy a road bike metobecane vent noir but a man says that there is no bike shop selling metobecane vent noir, it can only brought in the U.S. What is best road bike that I can buy aroung 15-30 thousand pesos?
    • I ride a Vent Noir. 4,500 miles (about 7,200 km) in 20 months. Excellent bike for the price. The Vent Noir is sold by bikesdirect and only in the U.S. I don't know where you live or the value of pesos but a similar bike would cost about $400 USD more. This Fuji would be very close in quality to the Vent Noir. http://www.fujibikes.com/bike/details/roubaix_15_c
  • I can get a 2012 Roubaix with SRAM Apex for $1800 - is it worth it? I went to my LBS and got fitted for a bike (Hippie, Bikeworks, wle, John M, McG, EL Dude, et.al, I know yer proud of me!). Yes, 56 is my road frame size, 58s had me bent too far forward - I was reaching for the bar. The Specialized Roubaix was the only bike that felt comfortable on the trainer (couldn't ride outside, it's snowing here in Detroit). . Now, a brand new 2013 Roubaix with SRAM Apex is a little more than $2300. The store can get the same bike, 2012 closeout model (brand spankin' new) for $1800 so that's a $500 savings. Here's the 2013 model, the 2012 is no different: http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/road/roubaix/roubaixeliteapexcompact#specs Two Q's: 1)Is the bike worth it? 2)How good is SRAM Apex? Okay 3 Q's 3)Should I forget about Apex and get one with 105? (not much price difference) Thank you Gentlemen, you've been very patient, kind, and above all, Helpful. Got the dough, do I take it or leave it? Strike the last sentence. I ask for your thoughts, and what you might do if it were you. Thank You.
    • Being a Specialized, the price tend to be a little steep... BUT if it is FULL Apex (crank and all) then it is OK for $1800. SRAM also makes a non-series crank (the designation escapes me right now) that is fine with the Apex group too. Apex was the first to offer a full range drivetrain as a 20 speed bike and remains the best option IF the bike IS full range (meaning a 32T low in the rear). The nicest thing is that if you decide to upgrade to Rival/Force/Red it is allll compatible with nary a problem. The only way to get a full range with Shimano is to use a triple. More weight and shifting suffers.
  • 2008 Fuji Roubaix roadbike a good deal? A guy wants to trade bikes on Craigslist. It has carbon fiber fork and rear stays and ultegra rear derailleur and crank. Ritchey wheels and bar. What would you price it at?
    • Get a mechanic to inspect the bike as carbon could be damaged then is worth nothing.
  • Good bike for the price? I want to use this bike for amateur racing and touring (i am broke so don't tell me to spend 600+) http://www.thresholdcycle.com/2011-Fuji-Roubaix-3-0.html?utm_source=google-shopping&utm_medium=organic
    • not a bad starter bike for the money. should work well for you. make sure it's the proper size for you before you buy it. It's more about effort than the bike anyway. "it's not about the bike" ~ Lance Armstrong Good Luck in your racing!!!
  • My husband is a looking for his first road bike and found a Specialized Roubaix Expert Triple Road Bike? Found a 2006 Specialized Roubaix Expert Triple Road bike for a good price. He is worried this is too much bike for him being a beginner in road biking. Price is under $1000 and will pay the same for lesser Specialized Allez models. What should he do? Other details that concern me a little: Bike comes with a full carbon frame, but has entry level group set. Is that strange that such a nice frame has entry level group set? Message from current owner: I am the second owner. I have never ridden it. I bought the bike to swap components onto my wife’s new bike. The components are basically, brand new with less than 100 miles on them. They came of off a 2009 Specialized Dolce Triple. FRONT DERAILLEUR -- Shimano Sora, 31.8mm clamp, bottom pull REAR DERAILLEUR -- Shimano Tiagra, long cage SHIFT LEVERS -- Shimano Sora, 9-speed STI, flight deck compatible CASSETTE -- Shimano Tiagra, 9-speed, 12-25t CHAIN -- Shimano HG73, 9-speed CRANKSET -- Sugino Triple CHAINRINGS -- 52 x 39 x 30t RIMS -- Alex S500, sleeve joint, CNC sidewalls, FRONT TIRE -- Specialized All Condition Sport, 700x23c 60TPI w/ Flak Jacket REAR TIRE -- Specialized All Condition Sport, 700x23c 60TPI w/ Flak Jacket The pedals are Shimano MTB clipless they were on the bike when I got it. The frame has two areas that have the scratches. One is on the top tube right side near the seat. Scratches/ rub marks on the clear coat about the size of a
    • ? Buy the better bike. Too many people buy a cheap bike, then start upgrading two or three times. It ends up costing a lot more than just buying a better bike too start! He needs to make sure it is the correct size! Here is a frame sizer chart to check., Select road bike and complete the information. http://www.ebicycles.com/bicycle-tools/frame-sizer Soccerref
  • Specialized Roubaix comp daily commuting in England? I am thinking of buying a lightly used Spesh Roubaix Comp 2008 (50 miles) for my daily commute of 10-15 miles each way. 1) Is the price of £900 a good bargain? 2) Will a carbon bike make a significant difference to the comfort over alu for commuting. At this price point is it a good idea to use the bike for daily commuting? Full shimano 105 gruppo (I will use sks race-blades and a back-pack). I do not require a frame for life. 4-5 years of frequent use. 3) The bike rack at work is situated just in front of the security guards, and the car-park so theft should not be an issue. I have been using my current alu bike for 1.5yrs with no issues.
    • It's a very sound bike which should last well over five years and meet your commuting needs very effectively. The carbon frame should be significantly lighter than your old aluminium one, and should soak up the bumps a lot better. Shimano 105 kit is good quality and good value. The price seems fair for the bike and its age, but it's not particularly cheap either. Make sure you insure it just in case, you can probably add it to your household insurance at little or no cost.
  • Trek 1.5 vs Fuji Roubaix 2.0? I am going to buy a new road bike, and I'm looking for some input. I have narrowed it down to the Trek 1.5, and the Fuji Roubaix 2.0. Both have similar components, and are around the same price (just under $1000). Anyone have any experience with these bikes? Thanks!
    • They are basically the same bike. Chinese-made aluminum frames which are sold by the pound to both fuji and trek, who then slap on their own label. Ride them both, whichever geometry feels better, you should buy. If they both feel good, buy the one which is lighter. If they weigh the same, buy the one which is cheaper.
  • Fuji Newest vs Roubaix road bikes? Which is better, the Fuji Newest 2.0 or Fuji Roubaix 3.0? I'm considering getting one of these bikes, and they share some of the same components, but the Newest range seems lower end and more for the casual rider than the Roubaix (hence the Newest 2.0 comparing to the Roubaix 3.0). Both bikes are the same price, $650, and I can't go any higher. Please don't tell me to go used. These seem to be great bikes. I will be using it for weekend rides on the bike trail, commuting to and from school, and just getting around town. Which is "better", and what are the major differences between the two? I don't mind a more leaned over riding position, if that's what the Roubaix offers. Thanks. http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1077558_-1_400306_400001_400306 http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1077595_-1_1535500_20000_400306 PS. How is the word "Roubaix" pronounced?
    • Blarg They are much the same bike, except for the chain rings. A double vs a triple.... and the colors. If you are a little weak on hills,, the triple might be a good idea for you. But, ultimately.... your call on this one. Fuji makes a good bike. You should be happy with your selection. By the way it is pronounced "Roo Bay". Roubaix is a city in France, beloved by cyclists for its one day Paris - Roubaix cycling race. It is a monster, and when wet, the cobbletones are like riding on sheets of ice.... with a mud chaser.... Soccerref
  • Best Road Bike similar to Specialized Roubaix Elite but less $? I test drove a specialized roubaix elite and loved it but the price is simply outside my budget. My local dealer has a 07 in stock in a 58 but won't discount the price. So, I love the geometry and ride of this carbon fiber bike and the components are great. Is there another bike I should be considering that is closer to $1400? Thank you very much!
    • I bought the Giant OCR C2 and have been very happy with it. You'll get the most bang for your buck if you find a dealer who has some of last year's bikes left over. I bought a 2006 at the end of the 2007 model year and got a really good price. In any case, do check out Giant. They have the reputation of good value for the price. HTH
  • How much is a 2007 Fuji Roubaix LTD w/ about 20 miles on it..perfect condition? I have a Fuji Roubaix LTD 2007 I purchased last year and have barely ridden. I would like to sell it but am not sure what it's worth. It it a beautiful bike in perfect condition (49 cm). Can anyone recommend a good starting price or direct me to a site that might help me determine its sales price?
    • 20% is a normal discount but you are selling in late fall and the bike model year has essentially clicked over to 2009 making yours 2 years old now. So I think selling for 70% of your purchase price is probably best you can do. It's likely you may not get that much. Even though you have a nice bike in perfect condition the used bicycle market has always been soft and you are ready to sell at the worst time of year.
