Q&A
  • How much does an adult goose sell for? They are white chinese geese. My two will be having babies next year. I'd like to keep some but can't keep them all.
    • Prices very much depends on breed, and if a pure breed, show quality. Can range from $20 for a crossbred goose up to $500+ for a top show quality African, Embden or Toulouse. Good White Chinese probably $50 for average quality up to $100+ for good ones. You need to study the breed standard to get an idea of how to tell good ones from not so good ones, so you will know how to price your geese fairly, both for you and potential buyers. Main features are pure white plumage, a really long neck, and a good round knob on the bill, placed centrally and not drooping to ne side. If you get the chance, visit some poultry shows to get an idea of the quality standard of birds winning, and losing.
  • Saddle Fitting Question. M. Toulouse Premia.? I own an OTTB. Due to a freak accident with a blanket, he now has a healed trauma spot on the base of his withers. Before this accident, my saddle worked fine. Now, the pads/ saddle/ something rubs the white hair and can rub the area raw, and if I let it reopen it. My saddle is the M. Toulouse Premia which isn't stuffed with wool but instead foam. Everyone I explain my problem too either says NEW SADDLE or a thinline pad. I'm worried that the fiction from the saddle pad on his withers is causing the rub. Though I want a new saddle. MY QUESTION IS: Can I somehow turn my foam cut saddle into a wool one? I really only have $1000 budget, give or take, what other saddles would you suggest? I'd love to stay with the Toulouse brand, do any of their saddles offer wool stuffing? I'm sorry if I'm not using the correct terminology, I've never had any problems with my saddle fit until now. Thanks for any help. I know I need to change SOMETHING before I ride again. The trauma caused to his withers is FULLY HEALED! This happened over 5 months ago, and now it's a matter of KEEPING it healed, and not allowing it to be rubbed open. The saddle fit prior to the blanket trauma. The saddle itself is not rubbing, though the pads are. I own a wither relief half pad and use it every ride. With my saddle pad I've even cut out a rectangle where the wound is, cut out a rectangle in the halfpad, and then put the saddle on and it still manages to rub. I'm dismissing this as poor saddle fit. Due to decreased muscle mass, or similar during his 5 month healing period. I do repeat, the wound is FULLY HEALED, it's just keeping it healed that's the problem.
    • Yes, you can have your saddle redone in to a wool flocked one. The price for that should be $250-400, depending on how much work has to be done. I would have a saddle fitter/ repair person out to check the saddle on the house and determine if wool flocking will help your issue. For a pad, I would highly recommend a pad that has foam or felt panels on either side and wool or sheepskin underneath. You want a soft material against the horse with 1/2-3/4" panels lifting the saddle up to reduce the rubbing. Mattes has a great pad that has a spine cutout and you can add foam or felt inserts to it. Mattes pads: http://www.bitofbritain.com/Mattes_PM_Correction_Half_Pad_p/652281.htm http://www.bitofbritain.com/Mattes_PM_Correction_Half_Pad_with_Rear_Trim_p/652278.htm Shim panels. You want a full panel or use both the front and back together, so your saddle fit/balance isn't chanced. http://www.bitofbritain.com/Fleeceworks_Full_Wool_Felt_Insert_p/3897.htm http://www.doversaddlery.com/full-visco-inserts/p/X1-19185/ Other options: http://www.doversaddlery.com/matrix-shpskn-1%2f2pad-w%2fproinst/p/X1-19090 http://www.doversaddlery.com/equine-comfort-correct-gel-pad/p/X1-19333/ I don't think the ThinLine material is thick enough to give your horse the clearance he needs above his old injury. Skito will custom make you a saddle pad based on photos of your horse with and without your saddle and a description of the problem. They are a US owned/based company and use all US made materials. Tom, the owner, will work with you until the pad works the way you want. Their pads are very hardy and he has both sheepskin and wool fleece to use on the bottom material. The foam panels come in varying thicknesses and densities, and are removable to wash the pad. http://skito.net/prod04.htm Their web site isn't very pretty or updated, but their pads are excellent. I have 5 Skito pads, my oldest going on 10 years old now, and they are fantastic.
  • Sissoko for newcastle. What was the suprise about this deal? Hope im right with the name i used and such. Did this player go to Newcastle for £2mill though that was fortunate for some reason or another? What was the circumstance in this deal. Was he priced say £10mill and they got him for £2mill for some special reason or something. Someone fill me in if they know about all this. thx guys
    • He was out of contract in June and wanted to leave Toulouse. Toulouse knew he would go to Newcastle for free in June if they didn't sell him now, so took what they could whilst they had the chance. Signing of the season so far. Lol, cool.
  • Getting a new saddle? Ok, so I am getting a new saddle I was given my current one and have no info on it. I believe it is 17, I am about 5'3 and 110 pounds. Is 17 the right size? Also what brand do you suggest? I would like it to be under 430. Thanks! :) Haha gosh I forgot to say english! :)
    • 17 is probably about right. You could maybe even go smaller if you wanted to. I'm 5'6 and I ride in a 17, so it's really whatever you feel comfortable in. Brand-wise, I swear by CWD, but it's expensive. I have a CWD show jumping saddle that fits both my Oldenburg and Dutch Warmblood, but for my Hanoverian, I had to get an Antares because the CWD didn't fit him. I love the Antares too, but they're both very expensive and well over your price range. However, they're very good quality and will last a very long time. A new saddle in your range would probably not last long or be very good quality. I think your best bet would be to look at used saddles of better brands. Ebay has tons of used saddles! Look at brands like: -CWD -Antares -Devacoux -Tad Coffin -HDR (Henri Di Rival) -Circuit -M. Toulouse -Collegiate -Crosby -Pessoa -Stubben Some of those brands you honestly probably aren't going to find for under $1,000 (specifically CWD, Antares, Tad Coffin, or Devacoux) because they're all such great brands, but it wouldn't hurt to look! Maybe you could get a good deal on one. Hope this helps!
  • How much will a train ticket cost if the train had a restaurant in it? Perhaps I was traveling to Strasbourg(France) from Toulouse(France) and I took a luxurious train with a restaurant in it. How much will one ticket cost?
    • it's the same price, Prices for TGV are depending when you buy the ticket (very very early in advance ou just before) and which period (holidays are expensive). On the other side, the restaurant will be expensive and not very elaborate.
  • What saddle should I buy? I'm looking for a saddle within the next year. I don't own a horse, so I was thinking a saddle with a changeable gullet might be good for me, but I'm not restricting myself to only that. My options are pretty much to get a cheaper brand new saddle like one of these. http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-1573&ids=687271757 http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-15035&ids=687271757 Or, I also really like the Pessoa saddles so I could try and find a slightly used one for around the same price or even less hopefully. So, what is your opinion as to what I should do? And have you heard anything about the Henri de Rivel or Marcel Toulouse saddles? I know they're not as great quality, but for the price, which is better? Sorry! I know this is a really big "question"! Thanks!
    • they're both ok saddles..but they're cheap saddles for a reason. the leather qualitiy isn't the best, they're hard to break in, and they don't last very long. my $800 saddle only lasted 5 years, my $6500 saddle lasted more then 30. anyway, don't limit yourself to just pessoa's if you can find a nice used saddle at that low price, you should maybe try and find an old butet or tad coffin :) Bevals are good cheap saddle as well.
  • Does top office france print and laminate? I need to get things printed off (large quantity) and some of it needs to be laminated but I don't have a printer or a laminator at home and my boyfriends mum takes way to long to print off the things that I need fairly urgent. Does top office do this? any place in Toulouse that will print and laminate at a good price?
    • In a word NO, you need somebody like Toulouse Imprimerie 106 Avenue TOLOSANE 31520 RAMONVILLE ST AGNE Tél : 05 61 55 12 11 / 06 73 97 28 59
  • Can M. Toulouse Saddles be widened? I found a used M. Toulouse Saddle at a local tack shop that fits my horse well and is within my price range, but needs to be widened. While the shop owner says the saddle can be widened and has the equipment to do so, others say it can not and I am worried that maybe the tack shop owner is just trying to sell the saddle. The model is the Annice and was made before the genesis system.
    • No, it can't be widened. People will say anything to sell something, especially in this economy. Beware. Best bet is to look for a saddle that already fits your horse.
