Q&A
  • How much would it cost to rent a house or apartment on a monthly basis for upto 12 months in Bulgaria? We'd be looking to rent in a city. Thanks. Princess: Any city is ok, except Sofia as it would probably be too expensive. We wouldn't really want one of the tourist towns like Sunny Beach or Bansko or whatever (again expensive) We spent a few weeks in Blagoevgrad before, that was ok. The apartment doesn't have to be city centre, suburbs are ok too (just as long as the apartment is nice enough and in good condition!) Thanks : ) We have seen a studio apartment near the black sea coast in one of those many newish developments, already built, for about €180 a month.
    • It all depends on where you will be renting. The price range is huge. If you specify the city, I might help. Keep in mind that city center is much more expensive that the suburbs. Edit: You are not saying what is the purpose of your stay, your budget and what kind of nature you prefer (mountain, sea...). You can choose any big city from the map. Sofia is the most expensive along with Varna and Stara Zagora. North gets very cold in the winter. South-East is windy (Sliven known as the windy city). South-West very worm (Sandanski, Petrich). The middle is kind of historical part (Veliko Tarnovo). Note that only Sofia has general heating system that gives you constant hot water and worm apartment in the winter! All the other cities are using electricity or other source of heating The smaller the town, the cheapest the rent and cost of living but less employment and income. As it is (almost)everywhere in the world - the foreigners pay double. I would suggest asking bulgarian you trust to look for apartment. Agencies charge a lot but it might be good investment for you are signing a contract witch gives you lot of rights if a problem occurs.
