Q&A
  • I am trying to book a holiday!? I was thinking of booking a flight to Malta with Ryanair (October) & I have booked a week off from work so I have been waiting for a couple of months for the price to go down but its just getting higher & higher but it was way lower during these August school hols! Do you think it will get any lower? How does Ryanair work with their prices?
    • The common misconception is that prices get lower the longer you leave them. However in today's climate, that is not true. It's all dependent on things like stocks and fuel prices to things like conflict or any reason in flight demand. So book it when it first comes available in future. However for now, book it now. It's only going to get you more uneasy, as you'll have some uncertainty, make a plan and go with it!
  • What laptop should I purchase? I want something good looking, nothing fancy or super "wow", just something plain with mabie a bit of a design on the casing. I need at least 4GB of RAM and a minimun of 300GB, the more the better. It doesn't necessarily need to be lightweight and as portable as most laptops, but heavyduty is a must, as it's going to be used around the clock. The battrey life doesn't have to be super good, but if it does have a good battrey life when on energy saving mode, you'd hear no complains by me. I'd definetly need wifi and a disk-drive (no MacBook Air). If I were to narrow down the search I'd probably say no Dell or Mac (already have an Apple and basically I'm only using Win on it). I'd also need the laptop to be "big" from 15.5", as I'm not a fan of netbooks. Preferably only mainstream brands, and that have a good relaibility factor, as I don't own a car and can't take it to repairs all the time. I also need it mainstream as I live in Malta, and I have mixed feelings about buying thecnology from eBay. My budget is anything up to $2,500 or €1,700. Obviously, I'm looking for a good product, so i don't want to go cheap, but, if it's less than the given price that wont be a problem :) If it's more expensive I'd still consider it! Thanks in advance! :)
    • I highly suggust HP high peformance laptops those are found here http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/series_can.do;HHOJSID=2k1xNQKXtC1bhWdhVCXnQ4T8qWyd4LKbvn6dZQc2vTpTygHDb2G0!-1430738687?storeName=computer_store&landing=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=High%20performance&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/lateralnav_high_performance_notebooks_home
  • The best place where to stay in Malta ? Hi everyone !! I am willing to rent an apartment in Malta from July to August. The prices are more or less the same. However, one is located in Swatar and the other one is in Karissi Street, St Julians. Which destination is the best in your opinion ? Thanks!
    • the second one.
  • Price of cigerettes in Malta? What is the price of a pack of cigerettes in Malta in Euros? Also what are the price of cigerettes in duty free in Maltairport? Thanks
    • 3.73 Euro. I have no idea about prices at Malta International Airport, besides the fact that they are duty-free as at 3rd June 2011.
  • Is 24 degrees hot enough for a summer holiday? I'm thinking of booking a holiday to Malta in May. I've done my research and I've found that the temperature can range from 24c to 16c during the day. Is this warm enough to sunbathe and go in the pool etc? I usually go on holiday in June when it's around 32c but I don't want to pay the high prices.
    • Hey! At the moment the temperature is 18c..and it's very warm and nice. Definitely good for sunbathing. And yes...you're right about the accommodation thing..prices will go up at the beginning of June haha ;) cheers and enjoy your holiday!
  • to anyone that studied abroad and stayed with a host family? Hey, so I've been thinking of continuing my education in England (i'm from Malta), this program is to study there for 2 years staying with a host family. And going to a 6th form. I've been wondering if anyone here ever studied abroad and/or stayed with a host family? Did you have a good time? Did you feel welcomed? How difficult was it to adjust knowing you're in a different country with a different family? The price is around 14000 euro which is basically around 20000 US dollars, with everything paid, you also get a mobile and a sim card (uk number of course) also there would be monthly day excursions which would be also paid for. Do you think it's worth it, and would you do it?
    • I have not actually studied abroad, but I do know several people who have. My mom went to Australia when she was in high school, and she absolutely loved it. The host family she stayed with was wonderful, and she had no problem adjusting to life in a new country. However, that's not always the case with foreign exchange students. I've also heard stories about people not getting along with their host families. But, if you are going through a reliable program, such as AFS, there should be no problem with finding a new host family. Overall, eveyone I've talked to who has studied abroad has loved the experience, and I definitely think that if you can afford it, you should do it. I am actually planning to study abroad in Italy next year, and while I'm really nervous about a lot of things, like what my host family will be like, I know that it will be an amazing year and I can't wait to go. If you want more info on what it will be like, there are many blogs available online at afsblog.org written by people who have been foreign exchange students.
  • I am planning to go to Malta to learn english.I cant find enough information about living Malta, prices etc?

  • Hi, where can I find a website that sells computer components at good prices and ships to Malta, Europe Thanks I would simply buy them from my local stores but pc components are a bit expensive here and there's not that much to choose from so that's why I'd like to find a decent website. Unfortunately I have yet to find one that ships to my country. Auction sites offer less options and there is always the chance of getting ripped off. I'd really prefer a good website with fixed rates. Kinda like buy.com or newegg.com
    • Why don't you try ebay.co.uk ?
  • What are the petrol prices in Malta at the moment? im going to malta next week, and am hiring a car - just wondering if anyone knows what the petrol prices are like at the moment?
    • See below for a link to the Malta Star website. By coincidence, there's a story on its homepage, about the increase in petrol prices!
