Yeah it is expensive unless your in the defence force and get cheap rent there..If your on a low or middle class income, you and your partner are entitled to either rent assistance through centrelink or Department of Housing. Even if they don't have a house available for you they still let you find a rental through the real estate and subsidise the rent for you. Or they may be able to show you a way for you to rent on your small income. You may just have to put up with a one bed flat until you can afford to get something bigger or even a caravan park. Weather good, 10-15 minutes to the beach yet we are in the Adelaide Hills. Flagstaff Hill, Aberfoyle Park, Happy Valley areas worth a look at. Lots of schools in this area including a High School, sporting activities and 35 minutes to the City Centre
